A Sandakphu Land Rover trip breaks into the same few line items every time: the vehicle, the forest permit, a bed each night, and food. The vehicle is the one people get most wrong — you will see figures online roughly double what the Association actually charges.
The Association's fare chart
The Singalila Land Rover Owners' Welfare Association publishes fixed fares on a board at their Manebhanjan counter. These are per vehicle, not per person. This is what the chart read when we photographed it on 29 November 2025:

The chart also lists an additional night charge of ₹1,500 per night on top of the first halt. Read those columns together: the up–down fare covers the driving, the halt charges cover the driver and vehicle waiting while you're on the ridge.
What we actually paid
We paid ₹8,500 in total for the vehicle across three days — Manebhanjan up to Sandakphu, a night there, down to Tumling, a night there, then back to Manebhanjan. That figure included the national park charges, which were collected with the fare rather than separately.
We can't itemise that ₹8,500 line by line with confidence, and we'd rather say so than invent a breakdown. It sits roughly where the chart implies once you add the up–down fare, two nights of halt charges and park entry for the group — but treat it as a real worked example rather than a formula.

What isn't in the tables above
- Cold-weather gear rental, if you don't own it — Manebhanjan outfitters rent jackets and sleeping bags for around ₹100–200 a day per item.
- A tip for your driver — not mandatory, but customary, and he earns it on that road.
- A buffer for weather delays. If cloud or a landslip closes the road for a day, you pay for another night — both the room and the vehicle's halt charge.
You can't lock the price in from home
The fares above are fixed by the Association, but the vehicle itself is allotted on the morning, in person, at the counter — see our permits guide for the full process. There's no way to reserve one in advance, so budget for the possibility of a Bolero instead of a Land Rover, or of losing a day to the queue in peak season.
